He graduated with distinction from the Faculty of Medicine of the Military Medical Academy in 1980.
He specializes in otolaryngology, audiology, and phoniatrics, medical rehabilitation, sports medicine, and military health care organization.
Since 2003, he has been the Head of the Otolaryngology, ENT Oncology, Audiology, and Phoniatrics Clinic, and since 2004, also the Head of the Second Department of Otolaryngology at the Medical University of Lodz.
He has supervised 21 physicians specializing in otolaryngology, audiology, and phoniatrics. He has supervised 30 doctoral dissertations, 101 master’s theses, and 12 diploma theses, and is the author of 406 publications published in national and international journals. Since 2002, he has been a member of the Senate of the Medical University of Łódź, and since 2012, Dean of the Faculty of Military Medicine at the Medical University of Łódź.
Since 2015, he has been the Polish representative to the European Federation of Audiology Societies and a member of the Committee on Clinical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2015-2018 term.
He is the Chairman of the Audiology Section for the 2018-2020 term.
Professor Jurek Olszewski, MD, PhD, has been awarded numerous distinctions, including the Gold and Silver Cross of Merit, the Medal of the National Education Commission for special contributions to education and upbringing, and in 2005, the honorary badge “For Merit in Healthcare” and the gold medal “For Merit in National Defense,” as well as the “Friend of Children” badge for his social work for the benefit of children. In 2010, he received a medal on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Higher Medical Education in Łódź, in 2008 the gold medal “For Merit to the National Defense League” and the “Pro Memoria” Medal for outstanding contribution to perpetuating the memory of people and their deeds in the fight for Poland’s independence during World War II and after its end.
